The "New World" is Here!

These past years technology has been improving day by day. We know relay on technology in our everyday life. Scientist, professors, economists, etc are now expecting technology to help them achieve their everyday responsibilities.

In my opinion, signs of a “new world” were given to us when public internet was opened to the public. Through the past years internet has become a NEED in our every day lives. Personally I can say that my days wouldn’t be the same if I couldn’t access my Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, and youtube account.
Businesses such as Blockbuster are now filing for bankruptcy because of technology. However, I do believe the world will be changing every day and “old” businesses who don’t know how to adapt to this new world changes will suffer and will be more vulnerable for bankruptcy. On the other hand, new businesses are growing every day. Examples such as Facebook who is now a powerhouse business is a great example of the importance of “following the flow”.

Few months back I started to analyze how the grocery shopping maker started changing and adjusting to technology and internet-media. Online stores such as BUY.COM have started selling products from golf balls to toilet paper. Buy.com has adapted to the online community by offering free shipping in some of their products. They also have a “deal of the day” with a discounted daily price in order to attract new customers.

In conclusion, I believe that stores that are utilizing their internet media to its full capacity are ready for the “new world”. These companies have dealt with change and are now ready to serve the consumers everyday needs. Personally, I am all for these changes. The internet is a great tool that should help you complete your goals and needs quicker and easier.

  1. You mention Facebook as a powerhouse business but you have to remember that they still are not profitable. Though Facebook is a great idea and has changed the way people communicate, business wise it's lacking something very important. Without selling his entire company, when will Mark Zuckerberg make a profit? More importantly, how?

  2. Elizabeth, I'd have to disagree with your comment. When Juan mentions Facebook as a powerhouse for businesses, I don't think he's talking about advertising. I believe he means that businesses now use Facebook in order to guide customer trends, as online shopping has skyrocketed over the past few years with a boost in customer confidence when buying online versus at retail stores.

While it's true that Facebook is not yet profitable, the benefits it provides companies are not so easily measurable - benefits such as consumers recognizing your brand, providing you feedback for the products/services you sell, suggesting your company to friends through positive word of mouth, etc.

As Juan mentioned, those companies that are embracing technology are seeking great improvements, and those who are dragging their feet (such as Blockbuster) are being left in the dust.

  3. As Juan refers to the new world meaning our world now revolves around technology I believe it is accurate. So many of us have forgotten about the use of letters and make less phone calls all because there are social networks such as Facebook and Twitter that constantly keeps us informed about others and can be easily accessed through our mobile phone. Many companies forcefully have had to comply with this new changes to survive such as I have mentioned in my blog as was the case with Blockbuster and Netflix. If one does not keep up with the changes they will be put out of business.
