You can’t see me, but I can see you
Imagine it’s a Sunday morning and you have nothing to do at home, you then proceed to grab your macbook and the start observing customers who are walking in and out of a convenience, retail, or grocery store. Five minutes later you see a customer who grand a pair of shoes and steals them. Immediately you press a red sign located at the top of your screen. Ten seconds later, you get paid X amount of dollars.
This is what a company known as Internet Eyes is trying to prevent stores from being shoplifted. Internet Eyes is a company that is looking for your services, services that will help stores, shops, etc reduce their shoplifting percentage. The company supposedly pays you every time you notice and report a crime that could be happening 500 miles away.
After further research I noticed that this was too good to be true. Apparently the company has a HUGE applications process, were you need to provide personal information such as address, telephone numbers, etc. After you have spent hours applying to be “Internet Eyes”, you then are ask to pay for their services!
At this time you realize that this is never going to work. First you have to pay in order to get paid. If you pay, you still need to catch a crime and I’m pretty sure you may need to catch several crimes in order to break even.
This whole concept seems fun to do but I believe is not worth the time. You could spend anywhere from 1 min – 10 days just spotting a crime. If you divide the time you’ve spend by the amount you will get paid, you will then find out that you will be earning much more money by working at McDonalds.
I believe that companies should just increase security in their stores. One would think that huge retail stores like Publix would prefer trusting an expert rather than someone in the other side of the world that probably doesn’t care about their store.
